Anne Briggs - The Time Has Come ( Remastered 1971 Album ) Anne Briggs - The Time Has Come ( Remastered 1971 Album ) Anne Briggs's classic 1971 debut album was re-mastered and reissued by Water Records in 2007 to much jubilation amongst fans of British folk. The singer/songwriter's stunning, candy-coated soprano enlivens this set of intelligent originals and ...    Full Descriptiontimeless trad covers, and suffers very little datedness. Although the reclusive Briggs was always more an artist's artist than a "star," with any luck this reissue will bring her the acclaim she deserves. Anne Briggs's celebrated 1969 debut consisted entirely of traditional British folk songs, but on 1971's THE TIME HAS COME, the U.K. folk legend began writing her own material. Still rooted in the sound and sensibility of traditional British folk, the 13 songs on THE TIME HAS COME are performed with minimal acoustic guitar instead of her debut's a cappella sound. Highlights include the title track, which Briggs had previously given to the Pentangle for one of their early albums, and the haunting "Fire and Wine." This Water Records reissue features no bonus tracks, but has been carefully remastered. One of the most important figures of the British folk revival of the 1960s, Anne Briggs was a huge influence on such luminaries as Sandy Denny, Maddy Prior and Linda Thompson. This is her second full length, originally released in 1971. 1. Sandman's Song 2. Highlodge Hare 3. Fire and Wine 4. Step Right Up 5. Ride, Ride 6. Time Has Come, The 7. Clea Caught a Rabbit 8. Blackburn & Snow - Something Good For Your Head Blackburn & Snow - Something Good For Your Head a great early san francisco folk-rock album, with psych & protest hints. Stranger in a strange land was written for them by david crosby. This is from the legendary mid-1960s vaults of Frank Werber's Trident Prod. this boy-girl folk-rock team, joined by Jerry McGee, members of Country Joe & The Fish, as well as members of the Grass Roots . Blackburn & Snow: Jeff Blackburn (later played with neil young in the ducks) & Sherry Snow. Additional personnel includes: Jerry McGee (guitar). "At their best they sound like The Mamas And The Papas with fuzz guitar or Country Joe And The Fish with gorgeous harmonies -- bloody good in other words. At their worst, they were pretty good and very sweet. If they were famous for anything it was the single "Stranger In A Strange Land" and it is fantastic: imagine H.P. Lovecraft's "Wayfaring Stranger" performed by The Peanut Butter Conspiracy. Presentation and sleeve notes are up to Big Beat's usual high standards. If, like me, you freak-out over the San Francisco sound you'll want this." Big Beat, UK -Chris Williams 1. Stranger In A Strange Land   2. Yes Today   3. Takin' It Easy   4. Time   5. It's So Hard   6. Do You Realize   7. Sure Or Sorry   8. Unchain My Heart   9. Uptown Downtown   10. Some Days I Feel Your Lovin'   11. Post-War Baby   12. Think   13. No Kidding   14. I Recall The Day   15. Every Day Brings Better Things   16. Stand Here   17. I Don't Want You Back Babe   18. Bonnie Dobson - Bonnie Dobson (remastered 1969 Album) Bonnie Dobson - Bonnie Dobson (remastered 1969 Album) Best known as the writer of the apocalyptic '60s folk-rock standard "Morning Dew", Canadian Bonnie Dobson became a mover on the Chicago and New York folk revival scenes and released five albums in the acoustic folk style between 1960 and 1964. She returned to Toronto in 1965 and continued playing the coffee house circuit without recording any more albums. By the time "Morning Dew" was being widely recorded by the likes of Fred Neil & Vince Martin (the first to cover it), Tim Rose, The Grateful Dead, Lulu, The Jeff Beck Group and Episode Six in the late '60s she'd upped sticks and moved to England, home of her songwriter heroes Jackson C Frank, Ralph McTell and Bert Jansch. Signing to RCA Records, she cut a highly-orcestrated version of "Morning Dew" at their suggestion for her self-titled 1969 'comeback' album, along with strong original material like "I'm Your Woman" and "I Got Stung" and covers of hippy-era folk-rock reliables "Everybody's Talkin'", "Let's Get Together" and "You Never Wanted Me". Dobson's live UK debut was at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in November 1969 and she became a familiar presence on British and European TV and radio for a couple of years. The 1970 follow-up album Good Morning Rain took her MOR/orchestral folk leanings to their logical conclusion and will appear on Rev-Ola in the near future. First time on CD for this 1969 folk-rock jewel! Includes the author's own version of her standard "Morning Dew" alongside songs by Fred Neil, Jackson C Frank and Dino Valente! Features in-depth liner notes with brand new interview material! Remastered in the usual mind-blowing Rev-Ola style! A must for all fans of folk-rock, singer-songwriters, female troubadours, orchestrated torch songs and good ole quality late '60s pop music!

Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (cd + Dvd ) Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (cd + Dvd ) 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions' features Bruce's personal interpretations of thirteen traditional songs, all of them associated with the legendary guiding light of American folk music, Pete Seeger, for whom the album is named. Speaking of the origins of the new music, Springsteen said, "So much of my writing, particularly when I write acoustically, comes straight out of the folk tradition. Making this album was creatively liberating because I have a love of all those different roots sounds... they can conjure up a world with just a few notes and a few words." Springsteen recorded the album with a large ensemble. The musicians on the record are Springsteen (guitar, harmonica, B3 organ and percussion), Sam Bardfeld (violin), Art Baron (tuba) Frank Bruno (guitar), Jeremy Chatzy (upright bass), Mark Clifford (banjo), Larry Eagle (drums and percussion), Charles Giordano (B3 organ, piano and accordion), Ed Manion (saxophone), Mark Pender (trumpet), Richie "La Bamba" Rosenberg (trombone) and Soozie Tyrell (violin). Lisa Lowell, Patti Scialfa, Springsteen, Pender, Tyrell, and Rosenberg contribute backing vocals. 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions' will be released in DualDisc format, with the full album on one side of the disc and DVD content on the other side. The 30 minute video side of the DualDisc contains extensive behind the scenes footage of the recording of the album. In addition, the DualDisc package will contain two bonus tracks and a special booklet including a note from Springsteen

Buffy Sainte-marie - Buffy/changing Woman/sweet America (3 Albums On 2 Cd Set) Buffy Sainte-marie - Buffy/changing Woman/sweet America (3 Albums On 2 Cd Set) This 2CD set digitally debuts Buffy's three obscure studio albums that she recorded for ABC Records and MCA Records between 1974 and 1976 (after departing her long-time label Vanguard Records). The songs she recorded for these projects follow in the vain of her lushly orchestrated 1972 album "Moonshot" with just a little twang of country/soft-rock. These albums represented a Buffy who finally had reclaimed her creative freedom (after her repressive latter years at Vanguard) and a Buffy who was at her most expressive, emotive in her songwriting, and singing. This CD release acts as the missing jigsaw piece to Buffy's classic back catalogue of song, which has to date, been well serviced. Over the last 10 years, we have been spoilt with an array of CD re-issues from Vanguard but nothing from this era. Although I tried on numerous occasions to engineer a CD re-issue I failed to my utter frustration, as I truly adore these albums and felt it a crime that they have long been out-of-print. I am therefore overjoyed that a deal has been done and this release will soon be upon us. How poignant that it is also due out on the same year that Buffy is due for a musical comeback with her new studio album produced by the Chris Birkett (producer of her 1992 "Coincidence and Likely Stories" album). Highlights to watch out for on this CD set are: "Waves" and "Star Boy" (from "Buffy" [1974]); the original version of "Eagle Man/Changing Woman", "Can't You See The Way I Love You" and the absolutely beautiful "A Man" (from "Changing Woman" [1975]); "Sweet America" and the original version of "Starwalker" (from "Sweet America" [1976]). PREPARE TO BE TAKEN ON A ROLLERCOASTER JOURNEY THAT WILL MAKE YOU SMILE AND BRING A FEW TEARS ALONG THE WAY. EXPECT TO BE ENCHANTED AND ENTRANCED BY A BUFFY WHO DELIVERS HER GREATEST PERFORMANCES OF THE 1970s!!
